General Tso's Chicken

Take your taste buds on a trip to China with our General Tso’s Chicken recipe. This spicy and savory dish features tender pieces of chicken in a sweet and sour sauce, perfect for those with an adventurous palate. Serve it over a bed of rice or noodles for a hearty and filling meal.

**Ingredients:**

For the Chicken:

- 1 pound (450g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying

For the Sauce:

- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
- 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil

For Stir-frying:

- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to your spice preference)
- 2 green onions, sliced (white and green parts separated)
- Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

**Instructions:**

**Coating and Frying the Chicken:**

1. In a bowl, season the chicken pieces with salt and black pepper.

2. Dip the chicken pieces into the beaten egg and then coat them with cornstarch.

3. In a wok or deep skillet, heat vegetable oil to about 350°F (175°C). Fry the coated chicken pieces in batches until they are golden and crispy. This should take about 4-5 minutes per batch. Drain on paper towels.

**Making the General Tso's Sauce:**

1. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, chicken broth, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Set this sauce aside.

**Stir-frying:**

1. In a clean wok or skillet, heat a little oil over medium-high heat.

2. Add the minced garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds, or until fragrant.

3. Add the white parts of the green onions and stir-fry for another minute.

4. Pour the General Tso's sauce into the wok and stir until it thickens, which should take about 2-3 minutes.

5. Add the fried chicken pieces to the sauce and toss to coat them evenly.

6. Remove from heat and garnish with the green parts of the green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.

7. Serve your General Tso's Chicken hot over steamed rice.
