Homemade Eggnog

Our Homemade Eggnog recipe is a must-try for any eggnog enthusiast. Made with fresh eggs, milk and cream, this creamy and decadent drink is expertly flavored with nutmeg and sweetened to perfection. It's sure to be a hit at your next gathering! We recommend serving it chilled and topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

**Ingredients:**

- 6 large egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup spiced rum or bourbon (optional)
- Whipped cream and additional ground nutmeg for garnish

**Instructions:**

1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and sugar until the mixture becomes pale and slightly thick.

2. In a saucepan, heat the milk, heavy cream, nutmeg, and cinnamon over medium-low heat. Stir occasionally and heat until the mixture is hot but not boiling.

3. Slowly pour a small amount of the hot milk mixture into the egg yolk mixture while whisking constantly. This is called "tempering" and helps prevent the eggs from curdling.

4. Gradually whisk in the rest of the hot milk mixture.

5. Pour the entire mixture back into the saucepan and continue to cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly and reaches a temperature of about 160°F (71°C). This should take about 5-7 minutes.

6. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and spiced rum or bourbon if you're using it.

7. Strain the eggnog through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any bits of cooked egg or spices.

8. Let the eggnog cool to room temperature, and then cover and refrigerate it for at least 2 hours, or until it's well chilled.

9. Before serving, give the eggnog a good stir, and ladle it into glasses.

10. Garnish each glass of eggnog with a dollop of whipped cream and a pinch of ground nutmeg.

Enjoy your homemade Eggnog, a rich and creamy holiday treat perfect for festive gatherings and celebrations!
